January 16 - Pirate for a Day at MD Anderson

Happy New Year, everyone! We welcomed 2020 with our first event of the year on Thursday, January 16th, 11:00AM-1:00PM, at MD Anderson. 12 children and their families were able to experience Pirate For A Day. The day's activities included pirate hats for the children to decorate, a pirate flag craft, pirate coloring books, and cool drawstring bags to personalize.

A well-known pirate, Jack Sparrow, made a special appearance. He talked animatedly with the children, and made everyone smile as he posed for photos with the children and their families.

The children had a great time decorating their pirate hats with jewels. One of the girls made a beautiful pattern on her hat with the jewels. It looked so pretty when she finished and we could see the girl's pride and happiness at her beautiful pirate hat.

We feasted on a delicious pizza lunch from Costco. Two little girls initially didn't have any appetite and their mothers were concerned. Seeing this, Jack Sparrow swooped in and asked the girls to at least try some pizza. To everyone's delight, both girls said yes. Their mothers felt so much better when they saw their daughters eating.

Time flew and before we knew it our event was at an end. A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers who, once again, did an amazing job making this an event to remember for the children and their families. What a terrific kick-off to the new year! Thank you, each and every one!
