Sept 24 - Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

This was our first time hosting an evening event at CHOP.  Our chapters welcome and accommodate any restrictions and schedules around the Child Life staff and children.

We had a large play room in which to set up a craft, capes and nail polish stations.  The children were peeking in the windows and got overly excited when they saw the crowns.

Overall, 12 patients and siblings came to visit with us in the playroom, and we conducted 2 patient room visits.  We had 3-D puffy and neon paint set up to decorate capes and masks, wooden princess ‘Be Magical’ and ‘Be Cool’ door hangers to color, and nail polish station w/ nail art and decals.  The children came up with some very creative ideas for their capes.  Each were able to take a goody bag filled with lip gloss, bracelets, necklaces, their crown, nail polish and crafts.  Some decided to take additional items back to their rooms to be able to color later.  Capes were left in the playroom to dry overnight.  They were happy to have a variety of cape colors and masks from which to choose.

The Child Life Specialist was very ‘thankful’ to us for hosting an evening event.  The department tries to come up with two events a week on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s and was very impressed with our activities and goodies and welcomes us returning very soon.

Each donor, sponsor and volunteer are a huge part of our success and ability to continue to brings smiles and fun days to our patients and families.  Your continued support and generosity are deeply appreciate and for that we “THANK YOU”!
